Anti-Semitism
Anti-Semitism in Arab Media: August 2003 RULE
Updated: August 29, 2003

Editorial cartoons appearing in popular daily newspapers throughout the Arab and Muslim world continue to turn to classical anti-Semitic canards in depicting Jews and Israel. While there has been progress on the road map to Mideast peace, the cartoons depict the Jews as anti-peace and a threat to the “hudna” or cease-fire declared by Palestinian terrorist groups. A common theme in many of the cartoons is the anti-Semitic canard of "Jewish control" of American foreign policy in the Middle East. In particular, Jews are portrayed as steering U.S. policy on issues such as Israel’s security fence. The cartoons demonize Jews, often depicting them as dirty, hook-nosed, money-hungry world dominators.

Below is a sampling of anti-Semitic cartoons from newspapers in Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
