Extremists and the Ricin Threat
The recent arrests of a group of north Georgia militia members on a variety of terrorism related charges, including alleged attempts to manufacture the biological toxin ricin as a weapon of mass destruction, bring home the dangers that such exotic weapons pose in the hands of extremists. While right-wing extremists have exhibited relatively little interest in chemical or biological agents such as Sarin nerve gas or anthrax, they have a long history of fascination with the deadly poison ricin, which can easily be manufactured from castor beans.
