Nevada: Anti-Semitic Incidents Decline in 2007

Las Vegas, NV, March 5, 2008 ... Anti-Semitic incidents in Nevada declined in 2007 for a second consecutive year, according to newly issued statistics from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which tracks incidents against Jewish individuals, synagogues and community institutions.  The League's annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, issued today, counted a total of 5 incidents in Nevada, down from 13 in 2006.  Nationally, anti-Semitic incidents declined to 1,357 in 2007 compared to 1,554 in 2006.

"The fact that there were so few incidents reported in Nevada last year is encouraging,"said Phyllis Friedman, ADL Nevada Regional Director. "But even one incident is too many when you understand that each act reflects overt hostility and hatred toward Jews."

Ellis Landau, ADL's Regional Board Chair added, "We will continue our efforts to counteract and prevent root causes of hate.  Our Nevada office offers anti-bias training in elementary schools and high schools through our No Place for Hate Program, which is designed to combat prejudice and to stop those, who because of hate or ignorance, would hurt anyone or violate their civil rights."

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
