ADL Offers Reward for Information on Edison Synagogue Vandalism

Teaneck, NJ, September 29, 2009 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators of the anti-Semitic vandalism of a synagogue in Edison, New Jersey, which was discovered this morning.  Congregation Beth-El was defaced with several large painted swastikas covering its front doors and windows.

Etzion Neuer, Director of ADL's New Jersey Office, issued the following statement:

The Anti-Defamation League shares Congregation Beth-El's shock and indignation over this despicable act, which occurred only hours following Yom Kippur, the most solemn day of the Jewish calendar.

The incident comes nine days after a yeshiva student in Edison was assaulted after being taunted with anti-Semitic slurs.  We know that the Edison Police Department and Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office will conduct a thorough bias crime investigation and we urge anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the contact the Edison Police Department's Detective Bureau at (732) 248-7540.

ADL is working closely with local law enforcement and community members.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
