ADL Decries Fire at Arizona Mosque, Calls for Thorough Investigation

Phoenix, AZ, December 8, 2004... The Arizona Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed its profound sorrow and concern over Tuesday's fire at the Al Sadiq Mosque in Glendale, Arizona.

Bill Straus, ADL Arizona Regional Director, issued the following statement:

All of us with the Anti-Defamation League express our  heartfelt sympathies to the Muslim Community over their tragic loss. We know that whenever a house of worship is damaged, that faith community feels an overwhelming sense of vulnerability.

ADL Arizona Regional Board Chair Helen Stern added:

We are concerned that, in today's climate, the possibility of foul play by anti-Muslim bigots looms large.  We are hoping that a thorough investigation of this fire by law enforcement will reveal its causes, and if found to be deliberately set, the perpetrators brought to justice.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
