New York, NY, April 11, 2006 … With the approach of Holocaust Remembrance Day on April 25, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is highlighting educational materials and resources designed to make the lessons of the Holocaust accessible to a new generation of students and young adults.

A leader in Holocaust education, ADL's innovative programs are available to teachers, students, parents and the public in a variety of formats, currently featured online at www.adl.org/education.  The League's featured educational resources for Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) include:

In the Schools:

• Echoes and Reflections – A Multimedia Curriculum on the Holocaust.  Created by ADL, the Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education, and Yad Vashem, this standards-based multimedia curriculum is rich with visual history testimony integrated into 10 multi-part lessons. 

This innovative new resource for educators offers curriculum connections to contemporary issues of diversity, prejudice and bigotry, and modern-day genocide, using more than two and 1/2 hours of compelling visual history testimony from survivors, rescuers and other eyewitnesses; lessons with timelines, glossaries and primary source material including maps, photographs, visual history testimony and original documents; suggestions for hands on lessons that promote critical thinking and interaction among students.

The Echoes and Reflections curriculum is currently being implemented in many school districts across the country and ADL offers free, full-day trainings to educators demonstrating how to integrate the Holocaust curriculum into their lesson plans.

On the Web:

• From Survival to Service: Resources and Classroom Activities.  This special Web-based curriculum is focused on the life experience of Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and hidden child survivor of the Holocaust. The online curriculum includes information on Yom HaShoah, an abridged history of anti-Semitism, a Holocaust bibliography and guidelines for teaching about the Holocaust.
• Children of the Holocaust: Includes stories of survival and a discussion and teacher's guide
• Curriculum Connections:  This series of online teaching resources developed by ADL's A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute offers lesson plans on Holocaust rescuers, genocide in the post-Holocaust era, and other anti-bias and social themes.
• Recommended Readings: The ADL's A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute features a list of recommended books for children on the Holocaust and other subjects.
