ADL and NBC Raise Awareness About Consequences of Hate Through "The More You Know" Anti-Bias Segments

New York, NY, December 13, 2006 … "If you want to rid the world of hate, then don't pass it on to your children.  Hate is something they shouldn't inherit."

That is the ADL message actor John Stamos of ER shares with viewers as part of NBC's award-winning "The More You Know" public service campaign, which entered its 18th season this week with a series of new segments seeking to raise awareness about the consequences of hatred, prejudice and bigotry.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) developed the anti-bias segments, one target of NBC's 2006-2007 "The More You Know" campaign featuring network celebrities as positive role models for parents, adults and young people.

"We know that it takes one person to make a difference in saying 'no' to prejudice, so just imagine the potential impact when a celebrity speaks as a role model to millions of young people and adults," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  "If we can change the heart and mind of one person with these segments, or inspire people to act against prejudice in their communities, then the effort of reaching out is well worth it.  We are delighted to continue our partnership of more than a decade with NBC."

Ranging from 10 seconds to 30 seconds in length, the campaign's anti-prejudice segments feature well-known TV celebrities such as Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni of Law & Order: SVU, Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison of Scrubs, and Miguel Ferrer and Jerry O'Connell of Crossing Jordan.

Each "The More You Know" anti-prejudice spot features the number of ADL's "Stop the Hate Hotline" (1-877-260-7ADL) where the public may call in to request additional information by mail on combating prejudice, bigotry and hate.  The campaign has also launched an interactive Web site, www.themoreyouknow.com, which features the League's educational resources and links to articles, including ADL's "What to Tell Your Children about Prejudice and Discrimination."

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
