ADL Welcomes Sentencing of White Supremacist Alex Curtis
San Diego, Calif., June 11, 2001 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) welcomed the sentencing of white supremacist Alex Curtis to three years in prison for making threats against a Jewish congressman and other officials and vandalizing two synagogues.
"Alex Curtis is an unrepentant bigot, anti-Semite and racist," said Morris Casuto, Director of the ADL's San Diego Office. "This sentence sends a message to those who seek to terrorize, intimidate and harass members of our community that their crimes will not go unpunished."
Curtis pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to violate civil rights. Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, Curtis agreed to apologize to his victims and not to engage in white supremacist activity in the three-year probation period following his release.
Months prior to his arrest, ADL published Alex Curtis: Lone Wolf of Hate Prowls the Internet. The report detailed Curtis' efforts to spread racism and anti-Semitism on the Internet through his Web site.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
