ADL Statement on Allianz and Giants/Jets Stadium Naming Rights

Update: (September 12, 2008): The Giants and Jets ended negotiations with the insurance company Allianz for the naming rights to their new stadium in the Meadowlands.  More

__________

September 11, 2008 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) issued the following statement regarding the possibility of the new Giants and Jets stadium in the Meadowlands being named for the German insurer, Allianz:

It is inappropriate and an insult to the memory of Holocaust victims for the new Giants and Jets stadium to be named for Allianz, a company that played a role in Hitler's Final Solution.

The New York region is home to many Holocaust survivors and their families and to World War II veterans for whom memories of the war are still vivid.  We hope that the teams' ownership will take this into account as they move toward a decision on naming rights.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
