ADL WELCOMES YIGAL AMIR VERDICT

New York, NY, March 27, 1996...The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) welcomed the guilty verdict in the trial of Yigal Amir for the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

ADL National Chairman David H. Strassler and ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman issued the following statement:

A three-judge court today found Yigal Amir guilty of the premeditated murder of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and sentenced him to life imprisonment, plus six additional years for aggravated assault. Although the ruling does not lessen the pain inflicted by Yigal Amir, it does send a very strong message that radicalism and violence will not be tolerated. Today's verdict reaffirms that violence is not an acceptable form of political expression.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
