ADL Lauds President Bush's Statements Supporting Israel's Right to Defend Itself

New York, NY, October 7, 2003 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today praised President George W. Bush for his strong statements supporting Israel's right to defend itself and "not feel constrained in defending the homeland," following an Israeli air strike against a Palestinian terrorist training camp in Syria.

"The President's comments are an important recognition that the crucial issue remains the terrorist threat to Israel and those who support the terrorist infrastructure both inside the West Bank and Gaza Strip and elsewhere in the region," said Glen A. Tobias, ADL National Chairman and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.

"Israel has maintained time and again that it is ready and willing to make difficult decisions for peace.  However, the people and government of Israel continue to be under siege by a relentless campaign of terrorism.  Israel has no choice but to protect its citizens from wherever such terror emanates."

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
