ADL Applauds Norwegian University's Unanimous Rejection of Proposed Anti-Israel Boycott

New York, NY, November 12, 2009 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today applauded a Norwegian University for rejecting a proposed academic boycott of Israel.

 

The executive board of Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, the second largest university in Norway, unanimously voted against the boycott proposal, which had been submitted by a group of more than 100 academics.

 

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement: 

While we are dismayed that such a blatant attempt to demonize Israel was even under consideration, the unanimous rejection of this biased policy is encouraging. 

 

By categorically rejecting the proposed boycott, the University of Trondheim demonstrates that it will continue to uphold the values and ideals of academia and refuse to allow politics and discrimination to taint and question their commitment to those values.

The League also expressed appreciation to the Norwegian government and to NTNU officials that expressed dismay at the proposal and denounced it.  ADL had previously called on the European Union's educational body and the university's administration to reject the anti-Israel policy.
