U.S. Law Enforcement To Study Counter-Terrorism Tactics In Israel

Jerusalem, March 18, 2010 … Sixteen law enforcement officials from across the United States are visiting Israel to learn how Israel's police, intelligence and security forces prevent terror attacks.  The weeklong program, part of the Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) National Counter-Terrorism Seminar, will be held March 20-27.

The ADL delegation consists of law enforcement leaders from the four largest police departments in the U.S.New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia – as well as from the nation's capital, Washington, D.C, and from major federal agencies including the U.S. Park Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for American law enforcement officials to learn about and see firsthand some of Israel's most effective counterterrorism strategies," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  "Israel has been the target of terror since the nation was founded, and its airport, malls and law enforcement agencies have in place state-of-the-art systems and procedures to prevent attacks and respond to threats.  America's law enforcement professionals and the American people benefit tremendously from Israel's experience and understanding of security issues and terrorism."

Over the course of the week, participants will be briefed by senior officers of the Israel National Police as well as officials from the Israel Defense Forces, and the intelligence and security communities. They will also go on site visits around the country to areas that have borne witness to terror attacks.

More than 100 senior federal, state and local law enforcement leaders have participated in the ADL program, representing cities across the United States.  The program is in its seventh year.

Also represented on the ADL seminar will be officials from the Illinois State Police, Michigan State Police and Rhode Island State Police, as well as the Birmingham, AL, Police Department and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, NC, Police Department.
