ADL EXPOSES EXTREMIST PUBLICATION
AS SIGNIFICANT VOICE OF HATE
New York, NY, April 24, 1996...The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today released
a report exposing a far-right hate publication as a major player on the
extreme right that has become a more significant voice in the aftermath
of the Oklahoma City bombing.
The ADL report, The Jubilee: New Voice of the Far Right, exposes the bi-monthly
Identity-oriented newspaper, The Jubilee, as a national umbrella publication
for neo-Nazis, Identity followers, racist skinheads and some militia factions.
The Jubilee, published since 1988, promotes groups such as the Militia of
Montana and blames the tragic bombing in Oklahoma City on the Federal Government.
Devoting many sections of the paper to its Identity philosophy, The Jubilee
maintains that the "true" chosen people are not Jews, but white
Christians. Regular features include interviews and articles promoting Holocaust
deniers and their propaganda as well as a regular column entitled, "Israeli
Terror Watch," providing readers with anti-Semitic anecdotes accompanied
by a caricatured cartoon of an evil-looking Jew bashing in the head of a
helpless-looking Palestinian.
The Jubilee is the sponsor of the "Jubilation Celebration," a
gathering, in its sixth year, of various extremists including prominent
Identity preacher Pete Peters and former Ku Klux Klan Grand Dragon, Aryan
Nations spokesman and contributor to The Jubilee, Louis Beam.
Approximately 350 people attended the 1996 "Jubilation Celebration,"
held in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on April 5-7. Paul Hall Jr., Publisher and Managing
Editor of The Jubilee, organized the event and opened by saying, "We
will take this country back, either by consent or conquest." Other
speakers included Randy Weaver, who received a standing ovation, and Louis
Beam whose speeches were titled, "When Evil Men Rule, Good Men Suffer,"
and "Man, Government and Law -- A Not-So-Holy Trinity." Pete Peters
promised the audience there would be a revolution in this country and that
bloodshed is inevitable.
The most troubling aspect of The Jubilee's extremism, the report finds,
is that mainstream political figures have, knowingly or unknowingly, lent
legitimacy to this force of bigotry, including Republican State Senator
Don Rogers (CA), who attended the gathering for the second time.
The Jubilee: New Voice of the Far Right examines the extremist background
of the main players involved in the newspaper, the content of the publication,
and the multi-media distribution of its propaganda.
