SUSPECT IN BACTERIA TERRORISM CASE ADVERTISED IN THE SPOTLIGHT PUBLICATION OF THE ANTI-SEMITIC LIBERTY LOBBY

New York, NY, February 24, 1998The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has disclosed that Larry Wayne Harris, being held by Federal authorities in Nevada in the anthrax case, not only was a member of the Aryan Nations, but reached out to extremists of all stripes through the publication of the anti-Semitic extremist organization, the Liberty Lobby.

According to ADL, Harris last advertised in the February 16 issue of The Spotlight, offering a free cassette entitled "Wake Up America". The ad, which listed an 800 number, said, "Bacteria is Here. Chemical Warfare. You Can Protect Yourself. Learn how." Harris listed himself as "Reg. Microbiologist, Ex CIA."

In 1995, following the arrest of Timothy McVeigh in the Oklahoma City bombing, ADL uncovered ads McVeigh ran in The Spotlight.

ADL applauded the swift action taken by the FBI to thwart a possible act of terror against Americans. Even though the anthrax was not the lethal strain, ADL believes law enforcement acted appropriately to protect the American people from a potential disaster.

EDITORS NOTE: For additional information on extremist groups, including Aryan Nations and Liberty Lobby and to arrange interviews with ADL experts contact the ADL Media Relations Department at 212-885-7749. Visit our website at www.adl.org.
