ADL Welcomes Falwell's Apology on Antichrist

New York, NY, February 2, 1999…The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today welcomed Rev. Jerry Falwell’s apology for his comment that the Antichrist is a Jew.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

We welcome Rev. Falwell’s apology for his comment that the Antichrist is Jewish and for his acknowledgement of his lack of judgement in making such a statement. We appreciate his recognition that his comment had consequences for Christian-Jewish relations, and should not have been made.

This matter is now behind us and we look forward to the ongoing work to improve Christian-Jewish relations.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
