School Vouchers

This debate touched on many of the same issues involved in the Istook Amendment fight. The League spoke out against advocates of tax-funded school vouchers, which parents could use to pay for their children's education in private and parochial schools. ADL again argued that voucher programs "pose a profound threat to the separation of church and state" because of their use of tax monies. Furthermore, ADL asserted that "channeling significant taxpayer dollars out of the public school system will deprive the public schools of any meaningful opportunity to reform and rebuild themselves, prompting a further decline in urban public education."
