Religion in the Workplace
ADL worked on several fronts to protect the rights of workers to freedom of religious expression without

religiously observant workers (Orthodox Jews, devout Muslims, conservative Christians and others) have
entered the secular workplace.
The League joined a coalition of civil rights and religious organizations to lobby for a proposed new law, the Workplace Religious Freedom Act (WRFA), which would strengthen protections for individual religious expression in the workplace. The WRFA will be reintroduced in this year's Congress; because of increasing support for the measure in 1998, ADL is hopeful for a successful outcome.
The League also contributed expertise in several disputes between employers and workers over religion/work issues, and conducted workshops and seminars aimed at increasing employer sensitivity toward workers' religious beliefs and practices.
