The CONFRONTING ANTI-SEMITISM Project is a program designed by the ADL to empower the Jewish community to respond to anti-Semitic incidents and to challenge the persistent anti-Semitic stereotypes that are at the root of these incidents.
The fear of being singled out as "different" and the risk of being viewed as an "outsider" are two often-expressed reasons why so many Jewish youngsters and adults remain silent in the face of anti-Semitism.
Strong, positive Jewish identity is closely related to willingness to respond to anti-Semitism. Even if they wish to respond, many Jewish young people do no know how to respond. ADL developed the CONFRONTING ANTI-SEMITISM Project to provide an interactive opportunity for members of the Jewish community to explore constructive and effective response to anti-Semitism. The basic CONFRONTING ANTI-SEMITISM Project takes place in a workshop format. If you are interested in providing a workshop in your community, please contact your local ADL office.
The goals of the CONFROINTING ANTI-SEMITISM Project are:
To create a safe environment for members for the Jewish community to explore personal reactions and possible responses to anti-Semitic incidents; as well as the potential consequences of those responses;
To develop a heightened awareness of the relationship between Jewish identity and responding to anti-Semitism
To assist members of the Jewish community in developing effective strategies and taking appropriate action against anti-Semitism, and
To develop increased communication skills among Jewish community members regarding seeking support and using community resources to combat anti-Semitism
