Possible White Supremacist Hate Crime Attack in Arizona

Police officers in Phoenix are investigating a possible hate crime assault committed by white supremacists that occurred over the weekend of October 18 – 19, 2008.

The 27-year-old victim told police that he was walking down the street when three white males approached and asked him, 'Hey, white power right?" The victim, who has light-skin, green eyes and a shaved head, reportedly answered, "No, actually I was born in Chile, South America" and revealed a tattoo with the flags of Chile and the United States.

At this point, the victim says, one of the men then revealed his own tattoo, a swastika, and the three men began to assault him.

According to the victim, two of the men restrained him while the third stabbed him in the stomach. The men then allegedly threw him down and told him to bite a rock. When the man refused, the attackers purportedly kicked the back of his head. The incident appeared to have been an attempted "curbstomping," inspired by the film "American History X," in which a white supremacist stomps the back of the skull of an African-American man whose open mouth he had forced onto a curb.

After the men fled, the victim was able to drive himself to the hospital, where he was treated and law enforcement was called.

The victim believes that the men first approached him believing that, due to his physical appearance, he might have also been a white supremacist.
