Challenging anti-Semitic stereotypes always requires personal courage. Knowing the myths in which many of these slurs and insults are rooted, can encourage an effective and assured response to insensitive behavior, bias and prejudice when encountered.

Truth
ADL’s Confronting Anti-Semitism Myths and Facts guide connects general concepts of stereotyping with definitions of anti-Semitic prejudice and discrimination, and explores the history of anti-Semitism. In addition, it analyzes persistent Jewish stereotypes and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, ranging from the assumption that Jews are cheap or responsible for the death of Jesus to the supposition that Israel had advance knowledge of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Action
Emphasizing practical suggestions on how to respond to frequently encountered anti-Semitic remarks, the guide discloses the origins of popular misconceptions, contrasts these with factual evidence, and describes recommended responses and actions. It also includes a list of Web sites and annotated bibliographies for students and adults highlighting additional resources on anti-Semitism and cultural diversity.
