A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute RULE
International Programs

Since the A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute’s launch in 1985, communities around the world have sought ADL's help in the fight against prejudice and bigotry. Here are some of ADL's current international education programs:

Israel: The A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute program in Israel began in 1994 with a media campaign to promote diversity and understanding. Today, the Institute delivers Teacher Training and Peer Training programs, with materials available in both Hebrew and Arabic. A partnership with Israel’s Ministry of Education's provides anti-bias workshops for teachers and students at Jewish-Israeli and Arab-Israeli schools. In addition, the Institute delivers anti-bias trainings to Israeli Border Police, and has provided workshops for Israeli Defense Force education officers.

Germany:  Through partnerships with the Academy for Leadership & Competence, at the Center for Applied Research, University of Munich www.cap-akademie.de, and the Eine Welt Der Vielfalt  Berlin www.ewdv-berlin.de, anti-bias and diversity training programs, including A CLASSROOM OF DIFFERENCE™ and Peer Training, are offered to teachers, students, universities, law enforcement, NGO’s and other institutions in the private and public sector since 1996. Through the generosity of the Bertelsmann Foundation , German adaptations of Institute training and curricular materials have been published.

Austria: In 2001, the Institute partnered with the Austrian Ministry of Interior to provide anti-bias and diversity training to Austrian law enforcement as a compulsory element of the police forces’ human rights education. Today, it reaches about 750 police men and women per year. In addition, A CLASSROOM OF DIFFERENCE™ programs are delivered to Austrian schools since 2005.

European Union: ADL and CEJI – A Jewish Contribution to an Inclusive Europe partnered in 1996 to deliver A CLASSROOM OF DIFFERENCE™ and Peer Training programs throughout Europe. ADL and CEJI are currently active in Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Peer Trainers in these countries lead anti-bias training workshops for other young people, and are organized in the European Peer Training Organization (EPTO). Training and curricular materials have been adapted to the native languages of participating countries.

Japan: Since 2001, the Osaka Diversity Education Network implements the Institute’s A CLASSROOM OF DIFFERENCE™ program in elementary schools throughout Japan and provides Japanese adaptations of Institute training and curricular materials.
