ADL Letter to Belgian Ambassador Urges Investigation into Anti-Semitic Attack
|

His Excellency Frans van Daele
Ambassador of Belgium to the United States
Embassy of Belgium
3330 Garfield Street, NW
Washington, DC 20008
Dear Mr. Ambassador:
We are very concerned by reports that a Jewish student was stabbed by a gang of Muslim youths in Antwerp on June 24, 2004.
We understand that an intense police investigation is underway to search for the assailants. However, this attack is but the most recent of anti-Semitic attacks on the Belgian Jewish community.
We urge the government of Belgium to thoroughly investigate this incident and to expeditiously prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law.
We look forward to the implementation of new measures reportedly being prepared by Interior Minister Dewael to counter the wave of anti-Semitic attacks and hope your government will take more concrete steps to protect the Jews and Jewish institutions of Belgium.
| Sincerely, |
