In statements given to Controversia TV in October, and CNN Chile in November, Senator Tuma urged the public to read the anti-Semitic writings of the Chilean Nazi writer Miguel Serrano and repeated hateful anti-Jewish and anti-Israel conspiracy theories.
During the campaign leading up to the March 2013 presidential elections, there was a noticeable increase in anti-Semitic graffiti and articles attacking Jews in Venezuela, much of it related to opposition candidate, Henrique Capriles, a devout Catholic with Jewish ancestry. Following the election of Chavez-protégé Nicholas Maduro, anti-Semitism continues being promoted in government owned and aligned media.

November 9, 2013 - Paraná, Entre Ríos – Two swastikas were painted on the corner of Mexico and Catamarca streets, and the phrase “MS-13. Mara Salvatrucha”, a reference to Nazi groups in the US and Central America, was found painted on a wall on Catamarca street.
