Letter to Harrods Ltd. regarding reports that it removed products bearing "Made in Israel"
|

Mr. Mohamed Al Fayed
Chairman
Harrods Ltd.
87-135 Brompton Road
Knightsbridge
London SW1X 7XL
Dear Mr. Al Fayed:
We were disturbed by reports that Harrods will be withdrawing goods from its stores bearing the "Made in Israel" label following protests by pro-Palestinian groups.
Throughout the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, economic boycotts were a weapon employed against countries and companies engaging in business with Israel. The continued use or threat of boycotts against companies doing business with Israel runs counter to efforts at easing tensions in the region so that peace negotiations can resume.
The most productive demonstration of corporate support for Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation is through investment in Israel and the Arab world, not through the politicization of goods produced in the region.
It is unfortunate that Harrods has allowed itself to be used as a tool to reignite economic warfare against Israel.

Abraham H. Foxman
