ADL Commends President Bush’s Strong Support for Israel

Dear Mr. President:
We are writing to commend you for your principled leadership and strong support for Israel’s right to respond to escalating acts of aggression against her sovereign territory from Hamas in the south, and now Lebanon in the north.
Today, as Hezbollah rains rockets down on the city of Haifa and other major Israeli towns and villages, you reminded the world that the current situation started with the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers from sovereign Israeli territory and the firing of missiles into Israel from Gaza and Lebanon. You were clear and direct in your call to release the kidnapped soldiers and to stop the firing of missiles as necessary steps that can lead to a de-escalation of the latest violence.
The international community should follow your lead by unambiguously identifying Hamas, Hezbollah and the states that provide them with funding, armaments, and tactical support, Syrian and Iran, as those responsible for the current escalation of tensions.
We look forward to the strong voice and involvement of the Administration as Israel confronts this grave threat.
