Building and strengthening relationships with the Hispanic/Latino community in the fight against bigotry and in support of American democratic values and ideals is an important focus for the Anti-Defamation League. The League has been exposing hatred and xenophobia targeting at Hispanics in the U.S. In furthering our mission to inform, educate, and prevent discrimination, racism and bigotry in all forms, this resource center brings together links and information on ADL’s programs and material in English and Spanish for the Hispanic community.
ADL also maintains close contacts with the Jewish communities of Latin America. The League assists communities to report and respond to anti-Semitic incidents and provides accurate and updated information about the State of Israel.
Immigrants Targeted: Extremist Rhetoric Moves Into the Mainstream
ADL has become increasingly concerned about the virulent anti-immigrant and anti-Hispanic rhetoric employed by a handful of groups that have positioned themselves as legitimate, mainstream advocates against illegal immigration in America.
Immigration: ADL has taken a lead role in exposing the virulent anti-immigrant and xenophobic rhetoric that has risen to the surface as part of the national debate over immigration. The League advocates for meaningful and substantive immigration policy that honors America’s promise as a nation of immigrants.
Interfaith Relations: ADL engages in interfaith dialogue with Hispanic communities in programs that identify common values and educate about Judaism. For instance, the Jewish-Latino Interfaith Seders bring together communities to share in the Jewish tradition of the Passover Seder.
Education: The League offers anti-bias education and diversity training programs, as well as resources for the Hispanic/Latino community in English and Spanish, with programs available to schools, universities, businesses, community organizations and law enforcement agencies.
Security Awareness:ADL, a longtime leader in security awareness for the Jewish community, works closely with partner organizations in the Hispanic community to enhance their security awareness.
Anti-Semitism in Latin America: ADL works with Jewish communities, governments and nongovernmental organizations to report on and raise awareness to global anti-Semitism. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of attacks against Jewish communities in Latin America. Argentina, with the largest Jewish community in Latin America, continues to be the country with most reported anti-Semitic incidents. In Venezuela, President Hugo Chavez and his government-affiliated institutions have elevated their anti-Zionism and anti-Semitic rhetoric.
