ADL Trains Campus Police Officers in Boston On "When Free Expression Becomes Intimidation and Harassment"
Posted: April 20, 2004
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), New England Region recently delivered special law enforcement training to more then seventy campus police officers in Boston. The training examined the challenge campus police officers face when responding to hate crimes and also instances when activism and expression become intimidation, harassment, and threats.
Officers from more then fifteen campus police departments throughout the region participated in the training, which included a panel discussion with MIT Police Lieutenant Mike Assad, Tufts Hillel Executive Director Rabbi Jeffery Summit, and Northeastern University NAACP Education Chair Whitney Montgomery.
"I thought it was an excellent presentation," said Sergeant Daniel Twomey of the Harvard University Police Department. I've been doing this for thirty-five years and I learned a lot from the session. The hate crimes issue pertains to so many groups on campus. That's why I thought it was so interesting. I want to send some of my detectives to the next ADL training because it's so valuable."
Please contact ADL to request training or to learn more about our programs for local, state, and federal law enforcement.
