The Militia of Montana, its presence on the far right admittedly eroded, currently describes itself as having no leadership officials or membership. Eligibility is open to citizens of any state, says co-founder John Trochmann. Despite a decline in membership, however, the militia's newsletter continues to enjoy subscribers and the group still attracts audiences at patriot events - indicating an ongoing interest in its agenda. MOM’s followers remain concerned by what they perceive as the erosion of citizen rights, the potential for a UN takeover and implementation of martial law. Property rights issues, including alleged government land-grabbing conspiracies to create international biosphere reserves, are also of particular interest.

Another noteworthy development has been the increasingly anti-Semitic nature of MOM's newsletter, Taking Aim. The group has promoted bigoted literature at gun shows and other venues, and has scheduled video programs for public access television like "Israel Lie: Government Gone Mad," as well as presentations on "World Zionism" and "Who Controls America."

The militia's emphasis on survivalism - what it terms "preparedness" - continues to be fueled by its anticipation of man-made or natural disasters. Trochmann typically focuses on these possibilities at far-right events, and MOM sells books and products to equip its audience for imminent catastrophes; in fact, the sale of survivalist goods comprises most of the group's income. Moreover, MOM urges stockpiling guns and ammunition in the event "patriots" are forced to battle "enemies" like the United Nations, foreign armies, the federal government or international terrorists. Consequently, MOM's audience is galvanized by fears of gun confiscation; the group urges vigilance against what it perceives as an incremental government attempt to disarm citizens "one bullet at a time."
