Still Howling
Tom Metzger continues to promote lone-wolf and small-cell activism.
After the racially-motivated April 28, 2000, killing spree in which Richard Baumhammers murdered five people in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for instance, Metzger lauded the killer's actions as a model for lone wolfism.
Baumhammers fit the classic lone wolf profile: he reportedly visited Internet hate sites and downloaded neo-Nazi and white supremacist materials in the period leading up to his rampage, and all of his victims were Jewish, African-American or Asian-American. (In September 2001, Baumhammers was sentenced to five consecutive death sentences.)
September 11
Metzger's response to the events of September 11 differed from most other anti-Semitic leaders. In a December 2001 e-mail, he wrote,
The main criminals were our incompetent U.S. agencies. It appears the Israelis tried to warn Washington but they did not listen. Evidence exists that Israeli agents traveled to Washington to share information about an eminent [sic] attack of some kind but the idiots in Washington ignored the alarm. Yes the Jews do many foul things and they distort our foreign policy but not everything that goes bad can be blamed on the Jews.
Metzger added in February 2002,
As far as the targets hit by the Islamic attackers, I do not consider the WTC a U.S. institution, but the headquarters of most that's wrong with our present masters. It was a Globalyst [sic] headquarters manned primarily by those with no loyalty to either Race or Nation. I consider the collateral damage to the many White emergency workers to be the real tragedy. As far as the Pentagon, that is now the muscle headquarters for the Imperialist anti-white regime - I care nothing for its fate either.
Muslims Still an Enemy
Unlike right-wing extremists who seized on the recent crisis in the Middle East as an opportunity to unite with Muslims against Jews, Metzger argued in May 2002, "Recently the crazy idea of meeting and marching with non-white mid easterners [sic] has been promoted by some right wing racists. Understanding their gripes is one thing. Tying our cause to theirs is stupid and dangerous. Moslems are no less an enemy than the Jews." On the other hand, Metzger also wrote in April 2002, "Their [sic] is a lesson to be learned from the Palestinians. Do not ignore it. Freedom Fighting works."
Border Patrol
In May 2002, Metzger also encouraged followers to work for the U.S. border patrol, writing that "the Aryan Syndicate has been notified by insiders that the Immigration and Naturalization Service is looking for White Power People to help guard the borders…apply today!" |
