Rodney Coronado, a longtime activist and spokesperson for extreme environmentalist and animal rights movements, was sentenced to eight months in prison for conspiracy to impede or injure an officer in Sabino Canyon, Arizona.

Coronado, 39, attempted to disrupt an effort by the Arizona Game and Fish Department to capture and kill mountain lions in Sabino Canyon near Tucson in 2004.  In addition to the felony count of conspiracy to impede or injure an officer, Coronado was convicted on misdemeanor counts of interfering with a forest officer and depredation of government property.  

Coronado, sentenced on August 7, 2006, will serve three years supervised probation and was ordered not to associate with members of the Animal Liberation Front, Earth Liberation Front.

Coronado is facing a felony count of demonstrating the use of a destructive device in San Diego as well.  Coronado allegedly showed a group of people how to make the device during a talk in San Diego on August 1, 2003.

Coronado served three and a half years in prison for his role in the firebombing of an animal research laboratory at Michigan State University in 1992.  He frequently speaks on behalf of environmental and animal rights movements in the U.S.
