The National Alliance, a white supremacist group, distributed racist fliers at a performance art show in Casper, Wyo. earlier this month, including one flier targeting ADL.
The three fliers were placed on cars outside a show featuring Casper-born Black performance artist Kema Jamal. They carried messages such as, "Diversity-Is it really our strength?" and "Abraham Lincoln opposed integration."
A Casper city official denounced the National Alliance's tactics and noted that there is no history of hate group activity in the city. A Casper police official echoed those sentiments, but said the only crime that may have been committed was illegal posting or littering.
In a letter to the Casper Star-Tribune, ADL commended Casper's political leaders and media for informing the public of the incident. Evan M. Zuckerman, ADL Mountain States Regional Director, said that while fliers such as the ones left behind in Casper are protected speech, their messages can be used to incite criminal activity.
"Dozens of violent crimes, including murders, bombings and robberies, have been traced to National Alliance members or appear to have been inspired by the group's propaganda," she said.
