Anti-Israel Boat Campaign Challenges Israel's "Siege of Gaza"
Meeting with Hamas
Posted: June 30, 2009
The Free Gaza Movement (FGM) has garnered the support of Hamas, the terrorist organization which now governs the Gaza Strip. Participants in FGM's first mission in August met with Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas' leader in Gaza, for a luncheon at his home. The Hamas leader gave the participants medals and told them that they were "now citizens of Palestine," according to Mary Hughes-Thompson, an FGM co-founder who attended the meeting.
In response to the meeting, the Israeli Foreign Ministry condemned the participants for "joining hands" with Hamas.
Stanley Heller, head of the Middle East Crisis Committee, a Connecticut-based group that has supported FGM, indicated that members of the November mission met with Haniyeh as well.
