Several Muslim organizations have joined together with an anti-war group and other organizations to form a coalition in support of a charity accused of funneling money to Hamas.

The coalition, dubbed by organizers as “Hungry for Justice,” is coordinating events and running a Web site in support of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) and its principals, which have been on trial since July 2007, in Dallas federal court.

The coalition includes the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the ANSWER Coalition.  These groups have a history of associations with radical organizations and individuals, and have sponsored events that have been marked by anti-Semitic sentiments and support for terror groups targeting Israelis.

Khalil Meek, of CAIR’s Dallas chapter, is the coalition’s primary spokesman and two other CAIR leaders are media contacts for the coalition.  Mahdi Bray, head of the MAS Freedom Foundation, is also a media contact. Their mantra is that the case against HLF is “politically driven.”

Meek is also on the board of directors of the Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA), which is helping to pay for the defense attorneys of the HLF.  Another member of the MLFA board of directors, Waseem Nasrallah, registered the “Hungry for Justice” Web site, which includes blogs, articles and other updates on the trial.  The defendants “are facing charges as a result of their nobel [sic] humanitarian efforts in Palestine,” according to the site.

The coalition is also affiliated with the “Freedom to Give” Web site, which claims that it is Israel and not HLF that should be on trial because “Israel has occupied Palestine.”  The site is registered to Noor Elashi, daughter of Ghassan Elashi, HLF’s former chairman – and one of the defendants on trial.  Elashi is also the founder of the CAIR’s Dallas chapter.  He was convicted in 2004 and 2005 in two separate trials for terror related offenses.
