Accusations of prisoner abuse and Koran desecration at American detention facilities provided occasion for several newspapers to depict Israelis and Jews as supporting and perpetrating such activities. A number of editorial cartoons and articles offered up hateful, stereotypical portrayals of Jews as scheming and plotting to destabilize the fledgling Iraqi democracy and to meddle in internal Lebanese affairs.
As in recent months, newspapers continued to feature anti-Semitic caricatures and themes that include conspiracy theories of Jews plotting to control U.S. foreign policy and dominate the world, demonic images of Jews/Israelis, and depictions of the stereotypical Jew (big nose, black coat and hat, skull cap etc.) along with Jewish symbols such as the Star of David.
