Former Ohio Congressman Jim Traficant gave a lengthy interview in the November 2, 2009 issue of American Free Press (AFP), a virulently anti-Semitic newspaper, in which he reinforced his own anti-Semitic views. He explained that the newspaper was the only print media to which he has granted an interview since the completion of a seven-year prison sentence for racketeering and bribery. Traficant has also decided to contribute a weekly column to AFP. 

Traficant gave a ringing endorsement to the anti-Semitic publication, and he encouraged others to read it "if they want to know what is truly happening in our government." Traficant outlined his views on a number of issues during the interview, published as an eight-page insert. He defended Jon Demjanjuk, accused of serving as a guard at the Sobibor concentration camp during World War II. Traficant, who has long supported Damjanjuk, alleged in the interview that Demjanjuk "was taken prisoner by the Nazis" and forced to act as a guard "under the threat of death." Traficant has announced plans to travel to Germany to defend the accused Nazi guard.

Regarding Israel, Traficant alleged that "the Israeli lobby has a stranglehold on the United States," and "over government" and that the United States is under a resultant threat of implosion. He also explained that his "problem is with the Israeli lobby, with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee" (AIPAC).This sentiment echoed Traficant's statements during a September 2009 interview on FOX's "On the Record With Greta Van Susteren," his first media interview following his release from prison. During his discussion with Van Susteren, Traficant argued that he was AIPAC's "number one target," and he went on to make additional statements alleging that Israel controls the United States government and other American institutions.

Traficant also defended former President Jimmy Carter against charges of promoting anti-Semitism by alleging that Carter's "fairness could never be questioned." In reality, Carter has advanced distortions, misrepresentations, and one-sided arguments that blame Israel for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

American Free Press has a history of supporting Traficant. Michael Collins Piper, an AFP writer, authored Target: Traficant, The Untold Story, defending the former Congressman against the charges for which he served a seven-year prison sentence. The publication has included language supportive of Traficant for several years, and it has released pieces devoted to proving that the American government "framed" him.

Willis Carto, one of the most influential American anti-Semitic propagandists of the past 50 years, publishes the newspaper. He has been associated with nearly every significant far-right movement in the country, from neo-Nazism to segregationism and Holocaust denial.
