His/Her Excellency
Foreign Minister of
Ministry for Foreign Affairs of
Dear Mr./Madam Foreign Minister:
We are writing to urge your government to take decisive action to isolate and sanction the Iranian regime. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's outrageous statement that the Holocaust of six million Jews was a "myth," compounded by Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, makes it absolutely clear that Iran represents a grave threat not just to our security, but to our values.
We appreciate the EU's strong declaration condemning President Ahmadinejad's appalling statements and its great concern regarding Iran's aggressive pursuit of a nuclear weapons program.
That is why we appeal to you to take immediate and strong steps to isolate the Iranian regime. Punitive measures must be adopted immediately. Steps should include the cutting of bilateral relations, the freezing of Iran's external assets and the banning of President Ahmadinejad from entering EU member states and from addressing the international fora. Iran's continued involvement with international organizations concerned with diplomacy, trade, culture and sport should be reviewed, with a view to suspending or barring Iranian membership. Critically, your government must do all it can to push the United Nations Security Council to impose sanctions in the light of Iran's continued nuclear defiance. The Anti-Defamation League will be making this call publicly in an advertisement running this week in the International Herald Tribune.
We respectfully appeal to you to undertake this urgent action and move to curb the Iranian threat.
Sincerely,
Barbara B. Balser Abraham H. Foxman
National Chair National Director
