What is the Nation of Islam?
NOI and New Black Panther Party
Posted: February 22, 2007
Farrakhan's outreach to members of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, perhaps the largest organized anti-Semitic black militant group in America, demonstrates that he has not abandoned his hostile attitude toward the Jewish community and that his efforts to portray himself as a mainstream Black leader are a sham.
The NOI's relationship with the New Black Panther Party began to solidify in 2005, when Farrakhan announced that Malik Zulu Shabazz, the group's anti-Semitic National Chairman, would co-convene the NOI's Millions More Movement rally commemorating the 10th Anniversary Million Man March. Since then, Shabazz has appeared with the NOI on several occasions (he also wrote the forward to the NOI's anti-Semitic book, The Synagogue of Satan).
Regardless of the role Shabazz ultimately plays within the NOI, Farrakhan's outreach to Shabazz already represents a significant development in the relationship between two groups that once competed with each other.
