Sami al-Arian, a former University of South Florida professor, has been indicted by the U.S. District Court in Virginia on two counts of criminal contempt for refusing to testify in a federal grand jury investigation reportedly looking into terrorism financing in Northern Virginia.

Sep 16, 2008 Mauritania Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb clashed with Mauritania military forces near Zouerat. Twelve Mauritanian soldiers were killed and 10 others were injured.
Sep 16, 2008 Mexico Two grenades exploded in a crowd in the city of Morelia during an Independence Day march killing seven people and injuring over 100 others. Mexican authorities say that the drug trafficking cartel “La Familia” is likely to be involved in what they say was an act of terrorism.
Sep 16, 2008 Pakistan A suicide bomber attacked a security outpost in Peshawar, killing three soldiers. Immediately after the blast, militants ambushed the outpost. Pakistani Authorities believe Taliban militants were behind the attack.

Sep 17, 2008 Philippines Abdul Balahim, an operative for the Abu Sayyaf Group, was arrested in Zam¬boanga City. Balahim was wanted for beheading 14 captured soldiers, according to Philippine authorities.
Sep 15, 2008 Australia Seven Australian men of Middle Eastern decent were found guilty of conspiracy to commit a terrorist act in Melbourne. The men – Amer Haddara, Abdul Nacer Benbrika, Aimen Joud, Fadl Sayadi, Abdullah Merhi, Ezzit Raad, and Ahmed Raad – were arrested in 2005 while plotting to bomb a soccer match in Melbourne.
Sep 11, 2008 Australia Belal Saadallah Khazaal was found guilty in Sydney of supporting acts of terrorism for producing a terror manual and faces up to 15 years in prison.
