Jerusalem, May 7, 2008 … The daughters of terrorism victim Leon Klinghoffer participated in a special memorial service for their late father, as Israel marked Remembrance Day for the fallen of Israel's wars and victims of terrorism on the 60^th anniversary of the state's birth.

The ceremony, held at the Jerusalem headquarters of the Jewish Agency for Israel, commemorated Jews and non-Jews killed outside Israel in terrorist attacks by anti-Israel groups.

Lisa and Ilsa Klinghoffer, founders of the Leon and Marilyn Klinghoffer Memorial Foundation of the Anti-Defamation League, are longtime spokeswoman against terrorism.  The Foundation was created with their mother, Marilyn, in late 1985 after the brutal murder of their husband and father, Leon, aboard the Achille Lauro cruise ship.

The Klinghoffers were on an anniversary cruise in the Mediterranean when Palestinian terrorists seized control of the Italian cruise ship, shot Leon Klinghoffer in his wheelchair, and threw his body overboard.

At the ceremony, the Klinghoffers were joined by Agency Chair Ze'ev Bielski in lighting a memorial flame in honor of their father.

More than 200 people have been killed in terrorist attacks directed against Israeli or Jewish targets outisde of Israel since the establishment of the State in 1948.

Formally affiliated with ADL in 1986, the Klinghoffer Memorial Foundation is dedicated to educating the world about the deadly realities of terrorism, working to combat the threat of terrorism through educational, political and legal means.  Since their mother's death in 1986, Lisa and Ilsa Klinghoffer have pursued a tireless campaign to stimulate public concern and governmental action against terrorism.
