The Muslim World League (MWL) is a Saudi Arabia-based international organization that promulgates a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam around the world through a large network of charities and affiliated organizations. MWL has a long history of providing financial support to terrorist groups or having organizational links to them, including to Hamas, Abu Sayyaf group, Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Jemaat al Islamiyya, and Al Qaeda.

A suicide bombing at a religious seminary in Lahore killed at least five people and wounded eight others. Minutes later, a bombing at a mosque in Nowshera killed at least three people and wounded 32 others. Arfraz Naeemi, a prominent cleric opposed to the Taliban, was among those killed. Taliban commander Saeed Hafiz took responsibility for the blasts on behalf of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban militant group as retaliation for the Pakistani military offensive against extremists. |

A bomb exploded on a passenger train, killing one person and injuring 35 others. The train was in the gas-rich Baluchistan province, which borders Iran and Afghanistan and is rife with sectarian violence. No one claimed immediate responsibility for the attack. |

A suicide bombing at the luxury Pearl Continental Hotel in Peshawar killed at least 15 people and wounded 70 others. The hotel was frequented by foreigners and elite Pakistanis, and at least two United Nations employees were among those killed. A spokesman for the little-known group Abdullah Azzam Shaheed Brigade took responsibility for the bombing in a phone call to the press and warned that his group would carry out more bombings in retaliation to the offensive against the Taliban. |

Police arrested Ansar Bernardino Venancio, a member of the Indonesia-based terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah, in Marawi City. Venancio was allegedly involved in the 2000 bombings in Manila that killed 22 people and the 2003 bombing of an international airport in Davao, which killed 23 people. Venancio also reportedly conducted bomb-making training among new recruits. |

Pakistani police arrested Iqbal Khan, an aide of radical Islamist cleric Maulana Sufi Mohammed, near Peshawar. Khan reportedly has been a member of the banned Pakistan-based militant group Tehrik-I-Nifaz-I-Shariat-I Mohammadi since 1989 and served as Sufi Mohammed’s close aid. |

Police arrested three alleged members of the Pakistan-based Tehrik-e-Taliban group in Sargodha. The three men arrested – Muhammad Saeed, Akhtar Shah and Muhammad Yar – were planning to attack the police premises in Sargodha, according to police. Explosive material and two suicide jackets were also seized during the arrests. |
