Dear Ms. Spillar:

We join the chorus of voices to express our concern that your magazine refused to print an advertisement submitted by the American Jewish Congress featuring three prominent Israeli women, and we urge you to reconsider this decision. As a champion of women's social and political progress, your rejection of an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of three women in national government was surprising and disconcerting.

We do understand that your editorial content has featured Israeli women, such as a cover story on Tzipi Livni.  However, by running this ad you will further the commitment you made in the June 1982 article, "Anti-Semitism in The Women's Movement," that, "In the current climate, Jewish feminists have a special need for the Women's Movement to be a safe harbor."

Again, we urge you to reconsider your decision.

  Sincerely,

The Anti-Defamation League
