Letters to the Editor
Connecticut Post

     October 2, 2008

To the Editor:

Whatever one's views of U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman and his support for Republican presidential nominee John McCain, to refer to this patriotic American as the "senator from Israel," in a Sept. 26 column by Ken Dixon is beyond legitimate discourse and disagreement. It plays into, however unintentionally, classic anti-Semitic charges of dual loyalty, asserting that he advocates for Israel's interests over what he believes to be the best interests of the United States.

Lieberman, like the vast majority of Congress and the American people, supports Israel and its efforts to secure a peaceful settlement in one of the world's most dangerous regions because that support is consonant with American interests and values.

  Sincerely,

David Waren
Regional Director, Connecticut
