Sir,

Your front-page story on the shooting death of an Iranian student starts out with an inaccurate and erroneous comparison of her death to that of a Palestinian man in Gaza ("Student who became Iran's 'Angel of Freedom'", June 23).

Contrary to your brief account of the incident, it was 12-year-old Mohammad al-Durra who was shot and killed in the crossfire between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants in Gaza; his father was unharmed. Moreover, numerous exhaustive investigations into the shooting have concluded that the boy was likely killed by Palestinian gunfire, not by Israeli soldiers.

To directly compare this controversial, highly politicised and ultimately inconclusive incident with the shooting of Neda Salehi Agha-Soltan in Tehran is highly inappropriate.

  Sincerely,

Abraham H. Foxman
National Director
