To the Editor:
On Thursday, Sept. 24, I will join many Connecticut residents, together with thousands from New York and around the country at the Stand For Freedom in Iran rally at the U.N.'s Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.
We hope that the people of Iran, struggling as they are against a repressive, corrupt, and cynically theocratic regime will know -- will see -- that their cause has international support. Likewise, the Iranian regime will plainly see that ordinary Americans are not indifferent to their domestic abuses and regional hegemonic ambitions.
In addition to its flagrant and violent suppression of its legitimate opposition, the current Iranian regime spews genocidal rhetoric, calls for the literal, physical destruction of another United Nations member state (Israel), and stands on the brink of acquiring the means to that ghastly end. That is to say nothing of the regime's support of anti-Western terrorism in the Middle East and around the world.
The organizations participating in this rally represent a convergence of a wide range of American political, philosophical and religious thought, united in support of those brave Iranians who continue to risk everything to free their nation from its current reckless and despotic government. The Anti-Defamation League is proud to be among them.
