Dear Director Goss:

As an organization long devoted to seeking justice on behalf of Holocaust victims, the Anti-Defamation League supported the Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act of 1998. We have welcomed the declassification and release of vital documents by government agencies as a result.

We are concerned that the Central Intelligence Agency has still not provided what are reported to be thousands of relevant documents in accordance with the law. Six decades after the end of the war, the time has come to make this information available and we urge you will work with Congress and with the Interagency Working Group to ensure that the remaining documents are released.

The United States has a demonstrated a tremendous commitment to seeking the truth about the role of individuals and nations in the Holocaust. This has included shortcomings in US policy and action – and we are stronger as a nation for this honesty.

With the number of survivors and witnesses diminishing by the day – and the reality that the Holocaust is fading into the pages of history and memory – we cannot wait any longer.

The memory of those who perished compels us to seek every answer and to disclose the documentation which itself bears witness to the atrocities of the Holocaust.
