ADL HAILS INTERNATIONAL EFFORT IN ARREST OF AMERICAN
NEO-NAZI
New York, NY, March 23, 1995...The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today commended
the Danish and German governments for their efforts in bringing about the
arrest of American neo-Nazi Gary Lauck, a major supplier of anti-Semitic
propaganda.
The ADL, which for years has monitored and exposed Lauck's neo-Nazi activities
and dubbed the Nebraska resident the "Farm-Belt Fuehrer," had
pressed U.S. and German governments to use applicable laws to prevent Lauck
from disseminating his Nazi material. Lauck was arrested by Danish authorities
outside Copenhagen on a warrant from the Hamburg (Germany) prosecutor.
"We applaud the actions by Danish and German authorities to effect
the arrest of the notorious neo-Nazi and anti-Semite, Gary Lauck,"
said David H. Strassler, ADL national chairman and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL
national director. "He has too long used the liberty afforded by American
democracy to attempt to destroy democracy abroad.
"It is our hope and expectation that Lauck will be extradited to Germany,
where the support he provides to neo-Nazis has been instrumental in their
deadly campaign of terror," the League leaders added.
Lauck, who uses the first name Gerhard, has said "I was born a Nazi,"
and "I'm totally dedicated...to the destruction of Judaism." He
set up an organization in Lincoln, Nebraska to
produce anti-Semitic and racist material, which he then shipped to Germany,
in violation of that country's laws. ADL had asked the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and the U.S. Postal Service to investigate and take appropriate
action against Lauck's activities.
