To the Editor:

Your editorial correctly warns of the pyrrhic victory the Palestinians will enjoy from their upgraded status at the United Nations (“The Palestinians U.N. Bid” November 29).

This status change may garner President Abbas headlines, but it brings the Palestinian people no closer to statehood, nor does it bring Israel closer to peace and security.  Indeed, if anything, it demonstrates to the majority of Israelis who support a negotiated peace agreement that the Palestinian Authority has little interest in engaging to promote negotiations, reconciliation or peace.
