Press Release

California Police Chiefs to Meet their Counterparts in Israel on ADL Mission

New York, NY, September 30, 2013 … A delegation of West Coast law enforcement executives will participate in an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) counter-terrorism training program in Israel from October 6-13, where they will meet with security experts, intelligence analysts, and commanders in the Israel National Police and Israel Defense Forces to learn about effective methods of terror attack prevention and response.

The group will attend high-level briefings on the operational response to terrorism, border and airport security, maintaining safety and access to holy sites, the role of advanced technology in policing, and use of media during a crisis.

The program, now in its fifth year, is designed to help American law enforcement executives gain a firsthand understanding of the impact of terrorism on civil society and allow them to interact directly with their Israeli police peers. The week-long seminar also includes opportunities to tour some of Israel’s most significant archaeological and religious sites, and to learn about Israeli society.

“As a people living under constant threat of attack, the Israelis are leading experts in security enforcement and response strategies,” said Tammy Gillies, ADL San Diego Regional Director, who is leading the mission. “The mission to Israel is a tremendous opportunity for American law enforcement professionals to learn from their counterparts in the Middle East, draw from the latest developments in terrorism prevention, and bring these methods back home to implement in their communities.”

Among the mission participants are law enforcement executives from the La Mesa Police Department, Oceanside Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Escondido Police Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Los Angeles World Airport’s Police, San Bernardino Police Department, Long Beach Police Department, Seattle Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office, San Diego Police Department, Santa Clara Sherriff's Office, and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
