ADL Adopts Resolution Calling On Senate Leadership To Address Judicial Nomination Process

New York, NY, November 21, 2012 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has adopted a resolution calling on Democrats and Republicans to expeditiously exercise their Constitutional responsibilities to repair the current “dysfunctional” judicial nomination and confirmation process.

Motivated by the current vacancy crisis on the federal bench, ADL urged both political parties in the Senate to take every step towards de-politicizing the manner in which nominees are treated.

During ADL’s annual meeting in Chicago on November 17, its National Commission passed a resolution which opposes the use of procedural and parliamentary practices, including withholding blue slips and filibusters, to delay or prevent the confirmation of nominees who are deemed well-qualified by appropriate bar associations.

ADL emphasized that delaying of floor votes on well-qualified nominees is an abuse of the system. Blocking nominees from receiving a Committee hearing or a Senate floor vote causes unnecessary and harmful backlogs in the justice system, thereby delaying and denying justice.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
